American Buildings Uses NIA Certified Faced Metal Building Insulation Exclusively in its Insulation Program

Alexandria, VA - American Buildings, one of the nation's premier designers and manufacturers of metal buildings, uses NIA certified faced fiber glass insulation exclusively in its insulation program. "The final decision regarding insulation is ultimately up to the builder or installer," explains Keith Fischer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at American Buildings. "They may either purchase it from us, or from another source. If they choose to buy from us, we will provide only NIA certified faced fiber glass insulation."

NIA certification means that the insulation has been laminated according to a specification and meets 100% of the stated R-value. "NIA certified faced insulation is the only established method whereby a building owner can be guaranteed that the R-value delivered is the R-value that's specified," explains Fischer.

American Buildings provides complete metal building and roofing systems for customers through a national and international network of builders and roofers. "As part of our partnering effort with our builder and roofer network, it is natural that our builders and roofers would choose to be on the side of NIA certified insulation because of the quality that it brings to the overall project," says Fischer. "It also helps them comply with the requirements of the ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Code."

American Buildings is "putting as much, if not more, emphasis on using NIA certified faced insulation than anyone else in the industry," says Fischer. "We believe we are helping our network partners to provide a quality project. Whenever there is something we can do to support them in that quality effort, we do it. If there is an opportunity for us to recommend something like NIA certified faced insulation, and it's prudent, then we certainly recommend a higher quality standard."

NIA certified faced insulation is laminated in accordance with the NIA faced Standard which addresses quality issues such as adhesives rates, compression ratios, packaging, handling, storage, moisture and other things that can impact the thermal performance of the insulation. Laminators must participate in third party testing by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) which ensures out-of-the-package performance of the faced metal building insulation, thus providing assurance that the product delivers the specified R-value.

American Buildings "has come a long way from the old pre-engineered metal building mentality," says Fischer. "In fact, every building we do now is custom. In addition to the traditional manufacturing and warehouse structures this industry has excelled at, we are also very comfortable with car dealerships, churches, municipal buildings, fire stations, strip shopping centers, mega shopping centers, medical clinics, and much more."

Founded in 1947, American Buildings is part of the MAGNATRAX Group. "Even though our main thrust is North America, we ship components and assemblies all over the world," says Fischer.
