Vapor Retarders
he vapor retarder, commonly called "insulation facing" provides several benefits in the metal building. As the exposed interior surface of the building, the vapor retarder provides condensation control, fire resistance, and an attractive and strong finished surface.
Note: The vapor retarder seams should be sealed correctly during installation. Punctures and penetrations should be repaired with tape to maintain continuity of the vapor retarder.
Fire Resistance
Most vapor retarders are designed to comply with fire standards.
Attractive Appearance
Most vapor retarders have an attractive white surface and good light reflectivity.
Strength
Most vapor retarders are scrim reinforced for resistance to rips and tearing during and after installation.
Selecting the Vapor Retarder
Several types of vapor retarders are available. Selecting the vapor retarder may depend on the building's use.
The most common vapor retarders have a surface made of white polypropylene film or white vinyl film. They have varying amounts of scrim reinforcing for strength, a fire retardant adhesive and a backing layer made of kraft paper, polyester film or aluminum foil.
The Certified Laminator can provide assistance in the selection of the appropriate vapor retarder.
