The Changing Nature of the US Non-Residential Construction Industry 2006-2010. The mix of non-residential construction in the United States has undergone a shift over the last 10 years. What sectors are gaining, what sectors are lagging, what are the drivers, and what are the implications for general construction companies and the mechanical insulation industry? How should insulation manufacturers, distributors, fabricators, and installing contractors position their businesses to succeed in the future?
National Institute Of Building Sciences and NIA. The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) has formed the National Mechanical Insulation Committee (NMIC) for Building and Industrial Applications to bring together governmental agencies, private industry and organizations that are concerned with the design, installation and maintenance of mechanical insulation. NMIC’s objective is to identify, develop and disseminate information related to mechanical insulation by examining current procedures and practices; identifying research or testing needs; developing recommendations; providing educational programs and to establish a roadmap for implementing improvements in design, insulation system selection and establishing application best practices. This presentation will define the scope of the NMIC, NIA’s role in the NMIC and NIBS and provide an overview of the history and accomplishments of NIBS.
How'd They Do That? Best Practices in Safety. 2005 NIA Safety Award Winners know the value of a good safety program. These experts share their best practices and discuss how they got their programs successfully implemented.
New Jacketing Systems Product Panel Update. Join a select group of manufacturers as they host a panel discussion on an array of new jacketing systems. A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentations to better guarantee that you obtain all of the information you need.
Building Customer Relationships: Marketing and Advertising Your Business. Join past president Vaughan Privett as he shares his personal experiences learning from others. Everyone has enough positive elements in their business to do something great on any budget to promote sales and services to valued customers. Never quit marketing what you do well and customers will never forget you. This session promises many interesting exchanges.
Applications and Innovations in Technology
How much do you know about the benefits and perils of current forms of technology, including cellular phones, inexpensive and portable electronic data storage, and the wireless movement? How do these devices fit into the business environment and what should you be concerned about? How will the need for businesses to seek future trends in technology affect you?
Technical Papers. Get informed on a variety of topics relating to the growth of our industry through the various presentations available to attendees of the convention. These meetings will be an opportunity to learn more about insulation and the different aspects relating to it. Industry and technical papers presentations will be tied to themes, such as:

NIA Awards Presentation

Steps to Develop a Certified Training Program. This session, to be held in conjunction with the Merit Contractors Committee meeting, will provide attendees with a general outline of curriculum, both industrial and commercial, will be presented, as well as guidelines for prevailing wage projects and Davis Bacon projects.
