Convention 2005

Spouse/Guest Programs

Spouse Networking Tea and Casino Gaming Session
Tuesday, March 22, 9:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Get reacquainted with old friends and meet new ones while enjoying Vegas-inspired sweets and treats. Spouses can enjoy networking with each other, away from the hustle of the convention.

Then enjoy a gaming lesson in the Hyatt's European-style Casino Baraka. Learn the basics of how to play blackjack and craps from professional dealers, or take part in a special, private slot tournament. Learn the art of gambling without risking your money. The 10,000-square-foot casino also provides other traditional gaming tables, a variety of slots, video poker, and a full bar, not to mention sweeping views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

A Special Spouse Program Presentation
Featuring Guest Speaker Joyce Straus
Wednesday, March 23, 9 - 11 a.m.

Join other NIA spouses for light breakfast fare and a special presentation from Joyce Straus, a self-taught and locally renowned artist. Joyce, who started The School of Creative Thinking in 1973, will be speaking about following your dreams at any age, and will take the audience through her amazing life story.

Teaching adults and children each week, Joyce began a process of teaching that touched the minds and hearts of all of her students, as well as her own children. As an artist, Joyce works in many media, including fused glass, metal welding, abstract stitchery, weaving, papermaking, watercolor, acrylic painting, collage and wood construction. Joyce is an international fabric designer for Northcott/Monarch in New York and Canada and specializes in Batik and silk painting. In addition to hands-on techniques, Joyce is certified in Reality Therapy (teaching the tools to help change behavior).

There is no additional charge for registered attendees to participate in the spouse/guest programs, however, space may be limited. Please sign up at the on-site registration desk to attend these events.
