Savannah Information

Beautiful Savannah

Savannah is a city rich in history, Southern charm and old-fashioned hospitality. Savannah traces its roots back to 1733, when British General James Oglethorpe first founded the city on a bluff above River Street. Today, Savannah offers world-class restaurants, Civil War forts, dozens of art galleries, fine antique shops, and much more.

Savannah has one of the largest historic districts in the United States, with more than 2,400 architecturally and historically significant buildings in a 2.5 square mile area. The gorgeous mansions dating from the 18th and 19th centuries are painstakingly restored masterpieces nestled under giant live oaks hung with Spanish moss. The historic waterfront district, once the center of cotton commerce, is again the hub of activity in the city. The old warehouses have been renovated to become shops, restaurants and taverns, each with its own unique characteristics. Known as "The Hostess City of South," Savannah attracts visitors from across the country and around the world.

During your time in Savannah, take the time to unwind and enjoy the laid back style of the South. Whether your style is basking in the sun on a paddlewheel boat, strolling through Forsyth Park among the fragrant and colorful azaleas or visiting the oldest art museum in the Southeast, the Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah is sure to be an experience you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
