NIA’s Safety Roundtable Adds New Insurance Component

NIA and its Health and Safety Committee will host the 4th Annual Health and Safety Roundtable during its 2009 Committee Days meeting. On Wednesday, November 4, 2009, from 1 – 5 p.m., members and their safety directors will have an opportunity to share information with their industry peers on a variety of important topics. Past topics include:

  • OSHA recordkeeping requirements
  • The importance and use of transitional duty programs to return employees to work following an injury
  • How to participate in an OSHA inspection
  • The importance of safety pre-task planning
  • Owner-controlled insurance programs
  • Use of industrial clinics versus emergency rooms for treatment of work-related injuries
  • Liability to employers for the use of company-owned vehicles
  • Controlling the costs of workers compensation claims

Topics from past years may be repeated. If you have an idea for a topic, e-mail Amelia Kurtz at akurtz@insulation.org by September 25, 2009.

NEW! Due to discussions during last year’s roundtable, the Health and Safety Committee will dedicate half the time this year to insurance-related topics. Two insurance professionals will attend the roundtable and discuss issues related specifically to purchasing workers compensation insurance and handling workers compensation claims. You will definitely want to take advantage of this opportunity to interact with these two professionals and get answers to all your insurance-related questions.

Dale Haden, safety director for PCI, and Gary Auman, NIA's general counsel, will serve as moderators for the Safety Roundtable. They will also answer questions and cover topics that have raised questions from contractors in the past. To ensure that the Roundtable covers topics that are most important to you, registrants will receive a list of possible topics one month prior to Committee Days and to prioritize and return to NIA.

There is a separate registration fee of $120 to attend the Safety Roundtable. Those attending both Committee Days meetings and the Roundtable will be eligible to receive a $25 discount off the combined registration fee.

Register online or download the registration form and return it to NIA by fax (703-464-5896) or mail (12100 Sunset Hills Rd, Suite 330, Reston, VA 20190) by October 16, 2009.
